Thomas Nagel was born in Quedlinburg in 1951. His parents were both professional musicians. In his youth already he started composing music. In that time he came into contact with Gottfried Michael Koenig and his Institute of Sonology in Utrecht. A continual exchange of experiences with electronic music and algorithmic composition began. During his studies of natural sciences Thomas Nagel developed a special interest in theories of time in relation to creative processes. As a teacher at the Kieler Gelehrtenschule he founded the "Musikwerkstatt Op.tosys" in 1995. He now tries to develop a new kind of team-work composing practice with young students. His aim is to lay the foundations for an alternative musical culture in which everybody is able to find and create his/her own music today.
